Music-reactive pixel lighting for Vancouver

Vancouver's winter is dark early and wet far more often than it is white, which makes it one of the best cities in Canada for permanent pixel lighting. Rooflines and wrapped trees can stay up all year and change theme with the calendar, and a mega tree in a plaza or courtyard draws people out on a rainy December evening.

Winter installation in Vancouver

Winters on the coast are mild, usually hovering a few degrees above freezing, with long runs of rain and the occasional wet snowfall that rarely lasts. The challenge is water rather than cold: weeks of steady rain find any connector that is not sealed, and wind off the water drives it sideways.

How we install for it

  • Every pixel connection is sealed and every cable gets a drip loop so water runs off before it reaches a joint.
  • Controller and power enclosures are mounted under cover where possible, with cable glands at the bottom, never the top.
  • Near the water we use corrosion-resistant clips and fasteners and check them at each service visit.
  • Because roofs rarely ice up, rooflines are good candidates for year-round permanent installs with theme changes through the seasons.

Commercial districts and BIAs in Vancouver

Commercial activity in Vancouver is spread across the downtown core and dozens of neighbourhood high streets, each with its own character and, in many cases, its own business improvement association running seasonal events. Courtyards, plazas, hotel entrances and waterfront promenades are natural homes for a mega tree, while street trees along a high street suit wrapped-tree programs coordinated with the association and the city.

When to book

Sunset comes before 4:30 pm in December, so a scheduled show can run from late afternoon through the evening rush. Book in late summer for a November install; permanent rooflines can go in any time of year.

FAQ

Vancouver: common questions

Yes, if they are installed for it. We seal every connection, add drip loops, mount enclosures with bottom-entry glands and check the run at each service visit. Rain is the main design factor on the coast, not cold.
